Domenic Gurreri and a high school friend founded Forest Contractors in the Spring of 1994, as young men, only 19 years of age and still in school. Though the partnership soon dissolved, Domenic continued to push forward his idea of creating a company that upheld the values of honesty and reliability and to lead an organization from which its customers’ wishes would be truly satisfied.
In the first year of service, Domenic sold exterior construction services in the evening afterschool. He would go door to door between 5 and 9 p.m. and complete his projects on weekends and evenings. He sold his car for a used pick-up truck, rented all the equipment that he needed to complete the different jobs and had all his material delivered. After having completed his first year of Civil Engineering studies at George Brown College, the business had already grown big enough for Domenic to hire two employees to help with project installations. At these early stages he even tried to sub contract out some of his projects but soon came to the conclusion that in doing so, he could not guarantee the level of customer service and work ethics that he wanted associated with the Forest name. He began to reinvest profits in order to own all equipment, machinery and skill in order to complete all projects. Steadily the company grew meeting the requirements to become associated with different professional construction organizations for the vast diversity of services they provided. The Forest fleet continued to grow and in 1996 alone the company made a huge investment of 15 pieces of machinery and equipment. This lead to tighter financial times in 1997, but the purchase of own equipment was vital to the implementation of the business strategy. This strategy continued to be successful and in 2004, Forest Contractors made a significant development investment buying a yard and building for equipment storage and home base. Through the years, the organization and overview of projects, manpower and equipment remained crucial to maintain the delivery of smooth operations with a superior quality of customer service. As the organization grew, in order to keep the optimization of crew and equipment, the company delegated the custom development of scheduling software. Also fundamental to their operations was causing minimal disruption to site traffic and normal operations. These two features have made Forest Contractors a company of choice for many project managers and their popularity as the company you can demand more from continued to grow. In 2010, the Company decided to take this fact and make it its motto: Demand More. Demand Forest. |
